Shaadi ke Adverse effects, Shaadi se Pehle

Preface: Owing to the storyline, I have changed the title to ‘Shaadi ke Adverse effects, Shaadi se Pehle’ 🙂
If you have missed what our hero Dev did in the first installment of this story, Please Click here
Dev enters the hall with full confidence knowing that he has won this important battle by getting rejected. Girl joins her camp and Dev sits beside his mom. Some hasee-mazak and girl sets to leave with her parents.Dev never speaks about this room conversation with his parents and tries to avoid this engagement story by changing the topic swiftly. When he is asked about this topic,he says that he has to leave to Mumbai soon as he has left his work pending for many days. He knows that his parents would get the news soon from the girl’s side. So he doesn’t spill the beans and waits rather impatiently for the girl to do the honors.
Mumbai, Monday 10am: Dev enters his office with full tashan with headphones blaring “Milne hai mujhse aayi”. His colleagues sense a change in him and pesters him with remarks about another girl on the same floor whom they think is his girlfriend. Dev avoids them and pretends he is working seriously.Just when he is about to go for his first coffee break he receives a call from dad. Thinking girl took no time to reply back,he thinks he needs to act effectively to mourn with his parents regarding his rejection of the proposal. But they just called to enquire about his travel whether he had reached safely the previous day. He almost asks whether they received any call from girl’s side but controls his emotions after spilling hot coffee on his trousers.
At last Dev’s parents get a call from girl’s side. They say your boy said stupid things when they were conversing together in the room. Hence they think it is wise to reject the proposal. Stupid things?? They say your boy is addicted to alcohol and smoking and doesn’t seem interested in marriage and moreover was working very hard to get rejected. Dev’s parents do not utter a word and hang up. It takes a while for them to digest this news and when things settle down a bit they dial their son’s number.
Dev is in a meeting and on seeing his dad is on call he walks off the meeting excited to hear the good news. But all he hears is dad’s scolding’s and barely speaks a word. Dev is frustrated and angry at the same time. He is frustrated for obvious reasons and angry because girl couldn’t keep his secret after assuring him all will be handled accordingly. So his intention to get rejected has fulfilled but at the expense of hurting his parent’s sentiments and most importantly loosing faith in being himself. Just then he receives a ‘hi’ from an unknown number on WhatsApp. Upon seeing the photo he understands it is from Sanjana, the Chennai girl. On chatting further he gets to know that she had shared everything with her parents. But she also says at the end that she likes him in spite of all his weaknesses and bad habits. She also does some dialogue baazi now-Tum handsome ho,well paid ho aur most important dil ke sachhe ho, tumhein agar mein mili to apne aap ko bahut fortunate manungi. Lekin mere parents is rishte ke khilaf hai.
The fact of the matter is Dev has never smoked or consumed alcohol. He just told this to add weight age and make Sanjana think to reject his proposal. Now he needs to clear the air and the misunderstanding with his parents first but his dad is not on speaking terms with him. So he calls his mom and tells everything he has to share. You know it very well that mom believes in you when the whole world is against you. Mom is convinced that her son can’t do anything wrong and had behaved such due to circumstances which he was in. She uses her convincing skills to persuade even Dev’s dad. After much persuasion Dev’s dad understands his son’s situational behavior and also decides to give him more time to pursue his dreams. Meanwhile Sanjana revolts with her parents for the first time ever and goes onto study masters after quitting her job. Over next two years, Dev and Sanjana both become good friends and one fine day decide to marry each other. When they both bring this news to their respective parents they are shocked and surprised and finally agree without much eventualities. After all Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
This is the story that Dev told to all his friends when he was asked how he met his wife, when they gathered to celebrate his first marriage anniversary.
P.S : After reading first part of the story many have asked whether it’s my story. I hope this blog post answers your question.
Keep Smiling 🙂 Cheers!!
